Did you see the recent movie “The Illusionist” where the hero, Edward Norton induces people from the audience into deep trance? Are you afraid that hypnosis is the work of the Dark Forces and do you still believe that its only value lies in either sorcery or entertainment? Well, let me tell you that hypnosis has been used for centuries to great effect to access parts of our brain that directly influence our thoughts and behavior but with which we are usually not familiar. That part of the brain is commonly known as the subconscious mind.

There is some speculation that we only use 10% of our brain, and while this is currently up for review, it is definitely true that there are significant parts of our minds which remain foreign, alien and unknown; if we were to befriend these subconscious elements, we would almost certainly lead happier more fulfilled lives with far less stress, tension and disease, and self hypnosis is an excellent way to get to know your subconscious.

Self hypnosis has helped many people reduce stress, stop smoking, manage pain, improve their performance and realize countless other achievements. Many people consult a hypnotherapist to help them reach the deep state of relaxation and receptivity required to manage their bad habits or stress, but did you realize that it’s also possible to hypnotize yourself?

We do it all the time when we repeat phrases to ourselves like “ I don’t deserve this” or “ why does this always happen to me?” We are, in effect using self hypnosis and putting ourselves into a trancelike state and introducing negative programs and behaviors into our subconscious mind. But what if we could use the same technique to inspire, educate and reprogram ourselves for success (whatever that might be for you) or relief from stress and its related side effects?

You can become proficient at self hypnosis quite quickly in a few easy steps. It is relatively easy to master once you get the hang of it and there are countless products out there to guide you through the practice, whether it be relaxing music or more prescribed guided imagery. It doesn’t take hours out of your day; nor do you need to go to the therapist’s home for a session and pay $50 or more. You’ll only need to allocate between 5 and 30 minutes a session, and provided your home, workplace or wherever you choose are relatively free of noise and interruptions, you can perform self hypnosis almost anywhere; nor will you need any special equipment besides perhaps an IPod or CD player and maybe a blindfold if you find it difficult to block out distractions. Some people find that gentle background music can be helpful while others find it off-putting, so just use trial and error and see what you feel happiest with.

In addition, it’s a good idea to wear some loose, comfortable clothing so you are not constricted and can relax more easily. The final thing you will need is to be open and receptive to the process you are about to undertake, not to mention having a pretty good idea of your desired outcome(s). This may well evolve as you develop your self hypnosis skills but for the time being, settle on an outcome/ intention for your session and create a positive statement which you will use later on. If you’d like to be less stressed at work for example, you might choose the positive phrase, “I’m becoming more relaxed and good at my job” (or something similar) rather than the negative statement, “I’m becoming less stressed”. Since the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between a positive and a negative statement, your mind could unintentionally focus on the word ‘stressed’, reinforcing that suggestion, rather than on the target of ‘becoming relaxed’.

Next you’ll need to assign yourself some uninterrupted time (remember to allow some time to relax afterwards too), and make yourself comfortable in a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. If necessary put a sign on the door and definitely take the phone of the hook.

Some people like to lie down but others fall asleep if they get too comfortable so prefer to sit in a comfy chair or cross-legged on the floor. There is no correct way to do this, so just see what works best for you, and remember that this is about relaxation not contortion so there is no obligation to sit cross legged if that is painful!

Take some deep breaths and let your abdomen expand on the inhale rather than hunching your shoulders. Visualize yourself breathing in tranquility and breathing out all the stresses of your day. Feel the oxygen spreading from your lungs all the way down your arms and legs to your fingers and toes.

Visualize a place where you feel relaxed. For instance you might imagine yourself walking down a long corridor or along a sandy beach, leaving your present surroundings far behind you. You may not register that you are in an altered state, but if you keep intensifying the mental picture, you should get there. It’s similar to the state of daydreaming or deep relaxation and may not feel quite like what you were expecting. Once you feel utterly relaxed and detached from your everyday life, start to repeat the positive phrase you chose earlier. You may decide to hear the sound of the words in your head, picture them, simply feeling their effect or just visualize your desired outcome.

You may not feel any huge transformation at the start. Self-hypnosis works in subtle ways and is not so instant; it is a more long term stress management tool but that does not make it any less effective, in fact that probably makes it more effective. Stick with it; you may be agreeably surprised and it certainly beats taking medication which numbs the brain rather than helping you make friends with it.

Hi there and G’day from sunny Australia…Byron Bay to be exact.

This morning I woke up and thought what a good idea it would be to really practise what I preach! (Yes, I know that we are quoted as saying that we use all the techniques we teach, but to be honest we don’t use every bit of advice we offer to our friends, family and clients every day as that would be as impractical as it would be stressful!

But I woke up really early today. I haven’t been sleeping that well. I don’t know whether it’s the change of season, if I’m stressed myself and got insomnia or if I’m developing more of an entrepreneurial mindset and starting to be more exhilarated and needing less sleep! Either way I thought it was about time I began to change tack a bit on this Soul Search. Me blog and moved away a bit from stress and anxiety and talked a bit more about some of the other personal development topics we have personally found invaluable.

So with that in mind I drove around to Max’s house….he just lives around the corner.. and as the weather was a perfect sub tropical winter’s day… 24 degrees Celsius and radiant sunshine, I suggested a walk on the beach before we got back down to work and immersed ourselves in more stress. (Some of you may know, we’ve just co authored a book on stress relief called The Anti Stress Book, so we are reading and taking about stress virtually all day long even if we’re not actually stressed ourselves).

So anyway, I believe in making the very best possible use of my time so when we got there I suggested we spend half an hour each just brainstorming with each other all the things we feel grateful for. What a way to start the day! Consciously utilizing The Power Of Gratitude is an extremely important component of attracting to ourselves all the abundance and happiness we desire and deserve in our life. Developing an attitude of sincere gratitude for your current blessings unleashes the power for receiving many more. Uttering it out load and being witnessed by another person to boot is extremely powerful, as well as provoking insight and thoughts about other things for which to be grateful and which we might never have come up with independently.

So why do Max and I value gratitude as perhaps the definitive personal development tool? Well, when you are in a state of sincere gratitude your energy or vibrational resonance is one of receptivity and harmony. You resonate acceptance and joy, and as a result project a much higher vibrational frequency than when you are complaining, stressed out and focusing on lack. Being grateful is exactly what attracts to you the events, conditions and circumstances that you desire, and the more you focus on them in gratitude, the more you will attract. (The more you focus on lack, the more lack you will also attract).

To better understand what we mean by the resonance created by gratitude, you might like to consider the following comparison…

Imagine yourself as a giant magnet. Whatever you are feeling, whether it be love, fear, anger, happiness, joy, gratitude, resistance etc. you are basically creating a magnetic force that attracts and draws to you events, conditions and circumstances which are in direct correlation to what you are feeling. Fear of something creates a magnetic force that will attract more of what you fear, but expressing gratitude for any situation projects a profound magnetic force that draws to you more of what you are expressing gratitude for. In other words, gratitude puts you in a congruent vibrational state of resonance which attracts the kind of energies you desire and deflects those which you do not.

Briefly, any time you are not expressing gratitude for an outcome, you are in reality resisting the outcome which in turn places your focus on not wanting that outcome. When this happens, where are your thoughts and emotions engrossed? On what you don’t want, agreed? When you focus on what you don’t want, you are effectively creating a virtual ‘magnetic force’ which only serves to draw to you more of that which you do not want or are resisting.

So there we were walking along the perfect beach under a cloudless blue sky and it was pretty easy to see why we felt grateful, as you can imagine. But let’s say that hypothetically there wasn’t so much to be thankful for, well how would you set about doing this exercise instead of feeling cranky and unappreciative? People counter all the time with, “How in the world can I be in a state of gratitude when everything seems to be going wrong?” when I respectfully suggest that gratitude is the fastest way to attract joy, happiness, prosperity and abundance into our lives. It is the key which opens the door to wealth and is an essential ingredient of the Law of Attraction.

First of all it’s important to recognize the importance of accepting responsibility for whatever is going on in your life. All the events, conditions and circumstances that you’re currently experiencing in your life are the symptoms and consequences of the thoughts and emotions you’ve chosen either consciously, or more likely unconsciously, sometime in the past. It’s as a result of those thoughts and emotions that you are experiencing whatever outcome you currently are. Remember, you are the one that thinks your thoughts. Your thoughts do not think you. In the same way, the emotions you are experiencing serve as a measure and are a reflection of the quality of thoughts that you are thinking. The way you feel is a direct indication of the balance of your emotions, so if you could feel better, switch your attention to something you could feel grateful for.

Since it is you who is responsible for attracting and creating the things you don’t want in your life, in the same way as you are attracting that which you DO want, then it must consequently stand to reason that you are capable of transforming the thoughts and emotions to blame for creating the negative results…. which will then produce the result you do desire!! Easy peasy…

This is why both Max and I believe that if you want to change any aspect of your life that’s not working for you, you need to change your mindset… and as a result you’ll change your life! Just about all the quintessential work of personal development is also about making sure that your conscious beliefs and your SUB conscious beliefs are aligned, and this is where the publications and products at Soul Search Publishing come in.

This week I’ve talked about why gratitude is so important if we want to grow and prosper. Next time I’ll explain to you how best to set about creating more gratitude in your life and give you some more of the how to’s plus some specific structures you can use to magnify and attract more of it. Till then I hope you have an awesome day focusing on being grateful.

You may have noticed that we at Soul Search Publishing are very interested in all things related to stress management and its consequences on your health and well being if left unchecked; we’ve even written a whole book on the subject called The Anti Stress Book, so passionate are we to help alleviate what is fast becoming the world’s most virulent epidemic… forget Swine Flu! While Swine flu is definitely a serious contender in view of the speed with which it is affecting the world, but stress and its associated consequences account for more days lost at work, more marital friction and more mental health problems than any other dis- ease today.

Official research is showing that prolonged exposure to chronic and constant stress is fast becoming a veritable killer. We just can’t function under this sort of consistent pressure. In our modern world, stress is a concern for us as a community, so we must address the issue both as individuals and as a society right away. We know that small amounts of stress can at times be good for us, spurring us to take action or step out of our comfort zone when we need to, but each year consistent results are showing us that as a nation we are no longer feeling just a little bit of stress and it is fast getting out of hand. And this is true in all other countries in the so call ‘civilized’ world. Are we beginning to lose a grip on what is really important in life? I believe we have already.

A national poll in Australia has found that 87% of the community is stressed. More alarmingly, 41% of Australians indicated that they are experiencing unhealthy levels of stress. The poll, commissioned annually by Lifeline Australia, conducted by News Poll and analyzed by Orima Research, has found that Australians cite workplace stress as their number one stressor, followed closely by financial stress, concerns about the future, health and personal relationships.

Interestingly enough, other results from the poll show that overall, women are more stressed out than men, people who live in big cities are more stressed than people who live in the country, single people are commonly more stressed than couples and the more people earn, the more stressed they get! What does that say about our values as a nation?

To help the country stress less, Lifeline Australia is once again holding Stress Down Day, on Friday 24 July and thousands of people around Australia are expected to take time out then to take part. Stress Down Day is part of a drive to get Australians to stress less as extreme levels of stress have been linked to real and lasting mental and physical health problems, such as anxiety, depression, back and neck pain, not to mention heart disease and even cancer. The campaign is designed to encourage all Australians to stop and think about developing positive habits to reduce stress now.

Lifeline Australia CEO, Dawn O’Neil is quoted as saying that “Stress and emotional health are serious issues, but we really want people to also have some fun on Friday and to participate in activities with friends, family, colleagues or on their own.”

We’ve heard about all sorts of activities that are happening all over the country. Some people are holding morning teas or dinners; some are holding relaxation activities such as yoga, while others are doing something quite silly like wearing their pyjamas and the Lifeline slippers to work or school. Lifeline also has an online store where you can purchase other products besides their quirky slippers plus your generosity goes to support Lifeline.

There are any number of things that people can still do to get involved. It isn’t too late to join in. People may simply want to take some time out on Friday to do something that is relaxing to them, like going for a walk, meditating or reading a book. Arrange to do anything which is going to give you some respite from stress, if only for a little while. Who knows, it could … and should…become a daily habit if it stops you getting quite so stressed!

Lifeline wants all Australians to put stress aside for the day and enjoy some fun, stress reducing activities in return for making a financial donation to Lifeline. “We just ask that people consider making a donation to Lifeline when they do this,” Ms O’Neil said.

All funds raised from Stress Down on 24/7 will go towards covering the growing cost of running Lifeline’s 24 hour telephone counseling line. This service connects over 1,200 people all over Australia with emotional support and without the backing of the community, this service would just not be possible at all.

As a nation Australians need to address the toll that stress is taking on our physical and emotional wellbeing and develop vital strategies to deal with and reduce the level of stress we experience on a day to day basis. This is also true for Americans, Europeans or anyone else who is part of the high pressure, 21st century lifestyle. We must bring balance back into all our lives. Beyond raising much needed funds for Lifeline, Stress Down on 24/7 is intended to encourage Australians to consciously take steps to look after their own wellbeing for the longer term. Perhaps other countries could adopt this amusing stress awareness strategy? We’d love to hear about it happening all over the world as an anti stress initiative. Perhaps we could get it going like the Free Hug campaign?

To make a donation to Lifeline and get involved in Stress Down Day on 24/7 visit www.stressdown.org.au and if you would like some very practical help on how to deal with stress, don’t forget to check out our brand new book The Anti Stress Book.

Enjoy Stress Down Day! We will be wearing our slippers all day.

You may well have heard of the 80/20 principle somewhere already, but have you heard of this law before? I have to admit when I read about it I did a double take, thinking they were talking about the Pareto Principle (The 80/20 Rule) which we talk about in The Anti Stress Book and had gotten their wires crossed, but this is something completely different although it can definitely help you with how to manage stress.

Once you come across the 90/10 Principle and incorporate it into your life, it will categorically have a profound impact on your way of life (at least the way you currently routinely react to your circumstances).

So what is this principle? It states that 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is determined by how you react.

What does that mean?

It means that we really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot?stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different and determined by YOU alone by your decision as to what something MEANS to you and your subsequent reaction to that meaning.

You cannot control a red light, but you can control your response to it by deciding whether it means you’re going to be late for a meeting or to get home for dinner, or whether it gives you a few minutes to centre yourself before dashing back to the office for that interview. Your call!

Don’t let people tell you stories! You CAN control how you react.

For example: You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over?a cup of coffee onto your clean clothes. You have no control over what just what happened, but what happens next will be determined by how you react. You get annoyed and scold your daughter unkindly for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize them for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your clothing. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must leave immediately for work.

You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye.?After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started dreadfully and as it continues, it?seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home but when?you finally do arrive home, you find a small stumbling block in your relationship with your?spouse and daughter.

Why? Purely because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a?bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?? B) Did your daughter cause it?? C) Did the policeman cause it?? D) Did you cause it?

The answer is “D”.

You had no control over what happened with the coffee.? How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day.

Here is what could and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, “It’s ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next time”. Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing fresh clothes and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on what a splendid day it is and you agree feeling great .

Notice the difference? Two different scenarios: Both started the same. Both ended differently

Why? Because of how you REACTED.? You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens.? The other 90% is determined by your meanings, interpretations, beliefs and ultimate reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle.

If someone says something negative about you, don’t be a sponge. Let the incident roll off like water on glass. You don’t have to let the disparaging remark affect you! React well and it will not ruin your day. An inappropriate reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.etc or worse.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Do you pound on the steering wheel? Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and ram into?them? Who cares if you arrive three minutes later at work? Why let the slow traffic ruin your journey?

Keep the 90/10 principle in mind and do not stress about it.

You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your energy and time instead to find another job.?The plane is late; are you going to let it mess up your agenda for the entire day? Why take out your annoyance on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to do something else: read a book, write an email or two if you have your laptop with you or get to know the other passengers.

Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now you know the 90-10 principle, apply it and you will be astonished at the results and you have absolutely nothing to lose by experimenting with it. The 90-10 principle is incredible but very few people know about it and even fewer ever apply it, with the result that millions of people are suffering from needless stress, pain, problems and despair.

We should all set great store by the 90/10 principle but we must also apply the 90/20 principle because it really CAN change our lives if we use it consistently.

Well, following on from my last blog post, I’ve just had some of my more limiting beliefs expunged! And it is always a healthy thing to have our horizons of thinking expanded… I was once British, and despite the fact that we have some highly entertaining and somewhat irreverent comedians… just look at Monty Python or Borat… nevertheless our stiff upper lip conditioning means that we are also very conscious of where and when it’s proper to laugh.

Worldwide in only one year (2004), more than 1,170 people died from lighting strikes; and just to keep this in perspective, it appears that the regular flu, not the swine flu, has killed 13,000 in the US since January, (although there is also strong endorsement that these figures are grossly exaggerated in order to increase vaccine sales). Who stands to benefit from a massive global panic about a supposedly deadly disease, the Swine Flu? Yup, you guessed it, the pharmaceutical companies.

According to Dr. Mercola of Mercola.com “Your Fear Will Make Some People VERY Rich in Today’s Crumbling Economy. The Associated Press states that at least one financial analyst estimates up to $388 million worth of Tamiflu sales in the near future– and that’s without a pandemic outbreak. More than half a dozen pharmaceutical companies …….with a stake in flu treatments and detection, have seen a rise in their shares in a matter of days, and will likely see revenue boosts if the swine flu outbreak continues to spread”. Very curious……

The New York Times and other sources quote flu experts who are apparently vague about whether the current seasonal flu vaccine could offer any protection whatsoever in any case against this exotic mutant, besides which it would take months to create a new one anyway. Some years ago Tamiflu was investigated by the FDA who showed that a number of of the common side effects of being vaccinated with Tamiflu included many of the very symptoms you’re trying to avoid!

Vomiting, Diarrhea, Headache, Nausea, Fatigue, Coughing

More serious symptoms included convulsions, disorientation or hallucinations, not to mention 14 deaths in children and teens as a result of neuropsychiatric problems and brain infections. And furthermore this drug, when used as directed, according to the official data, only reduces the duration of flu symptoms by 1 to 1 ½ days anyway.

To make matters worse, some patients with influenza are at a HIGHER risk of secondary bacterial infections when on Tamiflu, and secondary bacterial infections (streptococcus) were more than likely the REAL cause of mass fatalities during the 1918 influenza pandemic not the flu symptoms themselves. So what should you do? First of all, stop listening to the media coverage and give yourself a break from all that unnecessary worry and stress.

Despite what the media would have us believe, the fact remains that the regular flu at this point in time is FAR more risky than the swine flu and were you worried about the regular flu before the media started talking this up? I have not caught flu, either bird, swine or otherwise in over a decade, and you can avoid it too, without getting vaccinated, by following these simple guidelines, and while I am not a medical practitioner, these are the procedures I have followed for years. By keeping your immune system in optimal working order you’re far less likely to acquire an infection to begin with.

Avoid Hospitals and Vaccines. Stay away from hospitals unless it’s an emergency since hospitals are a prime source for infections of all kinds, and could be one of the likeliest places you might be exposed to this new virus.

Avoid Sugar and Processed Foods. Sugar decreases the vigor of your immune system almost immediately, and as you likely know, a strong immune system is vital in fighting off viruses and other illness.

Get Enough Rest. Just like it becomes harder for you to get your everyday jobs done if you’re tired, when your body is overly drained it will be much harder for it to fight the flu.

Exercise. When you exercise, you increase your circulation and your blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also getting better circulated, which means your immune system has a greater chance of fighting an illness before it spreads.

But above all come up with Effective Strategies to Manage Stress. We all face a certain amount of stress every day, but if it becomes uncontrollable then your body will be less able to fight off the flu or other illnesses. If you feel that stress is taking a toll on your health, think about buying The Anti Stress Book which is a remarkably comprehensive manual offering loads of tips and techniques, all of which are effective in relieving stress associated with work, finances, relationship or just plain day to day living! You can check it out at www.thestressbook.com

So remember, as the numbers of confirmed swine flu cases are released, keep a clear head and don’t let fear stress you out and run away with your brains.

Do you think you know what stress is? We certainly all feel it regularly from time to time but if you were asked to define what is happening to you when you’re experiencing it, would you be able to come up with a coherent and rational explanation?

A commonly accepted definition of stress which we love is that ‘stress is a condition or feeling experienced when a person believes (whether correctly or incorrectly), that demands placed upon them exceed the resources they are able to muster.’ In short, it seems to be consistent with the overwhelming emotions and physical side effects we experience when we think we’ve lost control of events. Somewhere or other we are all control freaks and would love to have absolute sway over our lives… and everyone else’s, not to mention the entire Cosmos!

It is perfectly normal to get stressed once in a while. Everyone feels uncertain when they step outside their comfort zone, whether it be at the beginning of a new business venture, relationship or right now with all the widespread financial insecurity, but our problems begin when we allow it to run amok. It can completely take us over and the long term side effects of stress can be particularly insidious and dangerous to our health. You may not be aware just how much stress is affecting you if you don’t heed the subtle warning signs, until something snaps either emotionally or physically and you have to deal with more serious problems down the track. It is really prudent to deal with stress now before your symptoms go further downhill, and our mission is to support you with that and provide you with many diverse and complementary alternatives.

We at thestressbook.com have written a book on stress management, providing you with countless techniques and expert advice harvested from our years of joint personal and professional experience.

In the meantime we have also created this Blog so we can keep you abreast of any new research plus the more atypical, entertaining and valuable additional information we couldn’t include in the book due to lack of space; with a bit of luck we also get to establish a closer and more personal relationship with you all and you with us.

Please feel free to sign up for our ‘freebies’, take the stress test or shoot us off an email with any queries or feedback you might have. We love to hear from you and you should receive a response from one of us within 24 hours, all being well.

In the meantime, here’s to your success at beating stress.

Warmly Maxim and Sandhan

Maxim and I want to make this blog as interesting (as well as valuable) as possible, so from time to time we’ll post amusing videos and maybe even a joke or two. Maxim is an inveterate joker BTW so watch out! Did you know that one of the very best ways of reducing stress is to laugh? There are even laughter clubs all over the world. Just as most of us recognize the importance of regular exercise to maintain good physical and emotional health, you’ve probably never given much thought to a practice which specifically exercises your emotions? The health benefits of this very silly and infectious New Age pastime as a way of managing stress are legion.

I first came across laughter as a therapeutic treatment, delivering the ‘feel good factor’ and in particular helping to relieve the effects of stress, many years ago when I lived in India, and waddya know, this seems to be where the earliest laughter clubs first appeared! I wonder if there is any connection. I’ll tell you more one day about The Mystic Rose meditation once we’ve gotten you used to the idea of laughing for half an hour every so often, as its pretty extreme, but the upside is Radical Transformation. If you feel you’re ready for a far-reaching emotional makeover, I’ll be posting an article about it shortly.

Dr. Madan Kataria, is an MD from Mumbai, India and is widely known as the ‘Guru of Giggling’. While researching the health benefits of laughter, he was amazed by the number of studies showing the important psychological and physiological advantages of laughing, particularly for managing stress. Looking for a way to deliver these benefits to his patients and other people, the upshot is Laughter Yoga, a unique exercise routine that combines group laughter exercises and yoga breathing. They are well aware of how hard it is to laugh when you don’t feel like it at all but they use the ‘fake it till you make it’ system…and the result is pretty darn amusing as you’ll see below.

I feel sure we’ll keep coming back to laughter as a stress management technique because it’s free and practically instant, but more than that, it helps you have a Class One experience… meaning that it feels good, it’s something that does you good and it does the same for others too since laughter and its positive effects can be pretty contagious. Just remember that sometimes you also need to be appropriate i.e. watch where you make use of it; but then again we could start a laughter epidemic to combat the stress one! Let me know what you think.

Be writing for you again soon but in the meantime I hoped you might enjoy this video.

No disrespect but Indian people are so engaging when they celebrate and laugh…

Hi there,
My name is Sandhan and I just want to welcome you to the first ever Blog post for The Stress Book. Congratulations! Maxim and I started this website to help everyone we can who is currently coping with stress but thinks that they are doomed to a life sentence! We both know what that feels like, but rest assured, it is not true; there are most definitely stress management techniques which help in reducing stress and anxiety. They don’t cost a lot, (some nothing at all) you can practice many of them alone and at home and mostly they produce an almost instant result.

In the Stress Book we have included all sorts of better known and not so well known tips for stress relief which we are certain will get you feeling like your old self again before too long. We’ll also keep you posted of anything new and interesting we come across as we trawl the net…. A deep passion of ours! You might also like to sign up for The Stress Weekly where we send you free weekly stress relief reminders which you can make your focus for the week until the next one arrives in your inbox.

For the 17th consecutive year, April 2009 has been designated as Stress Awareness Month and as authors of The Anti Stress Book we are as committed as any of the other health care professionals and experts all across the country who are currently collaborating to increase public awareness and vigilance about the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic. For I believe that epidemic is no exaggeration: while we are familiar with plagues akin to the Black Death or influenza, at the time the most recent figures I saw were released, stress and stress related diseases were costing the US alone over $46.4 billion a year and affecting over 19 million or 1 in 8 people.

With all that is happening globally right now, people all over the world are seeing their levels of stress increasing daily. Doesn’t this constitute an epidemic of plague proportions? You may well be one of those unfortunate victims and we are here to help YOU. With layoffs, workplace stress foreclosures and marital breakdowns a common byproduct of the economic recession all over the world, these figures must surely be the tip of the global iceberg? Stress Awareness Month is a national, cooperative effort to inform people about the dangers of constant worry and anxiety, successful coping strategies and harmful fallacies about stress that are widespread in our society.

The Anti Stress Book intends to bring advice and relief to people all over the world who are currently suffering from high levels of stress and anxiety and may feel alone and powerless to combat the devastating effects. Judging by the alarming statistics, it seems that we at the Anti Stress Book have timed it just right to release our new publication. Maxim, as a former mental health practitioner specializing in stress and schizophrenia believes as I do that the research on stress reduction and its recommended treatment has come a long way over the last 30 years or so since we both began working with people, but not yet far enough.

Too many people are still being prescribed long term medications such as Zoloft, whereas we prefer to recommend complementary medicine, alternative therapies, natural stress relief, self help and advocate preventative medicine rather than waiting until the stress and anxiety have gotten so out of control that pharmaceuticals are the only solution come across new relevant information but if you’d like to benefit from our special introductory offer on The Stress Book valid for the rest of this month only…
