Did you see the recent movie “The Illusionist” where the hero, Edward Norton induces people from the audience into deep trance? Are you afraid that hypnosis is the work of the Dark Forces and do you still believe that its only value lies in either sorcery or entertainment? Well, let me tell you that hypnosis has been used for centuries to great effect to access parts of our brain that directly influence our thoughts and behavior but with which we are usually not familiar. That part of the brain is commonly known as the subconscious mind.

This morning I woke up and thought what a good idea it would be to really practise what I preach! (Yes, I know that we are quoted as saying that we use all the techniques we teach, but to be honest we don’t use every bit of advice we offer to our friends, family and clients every day as that would be as impractical as it would be stressful!

You may have noticed that we at Soul Search Publishing are very interested in all things related to stress management and its consequences on your health and well being if left unchecked; we’ve even written a whole book on the subject called The Anti Stress Book, so passionate are we to help alleviate what is fast becoming the world’s most virulent epidemic… forget Swine Flu! While Swine flu is definitely a serious contender in view of the speed with which it is affecting the world, but stress and its associated consequences account for more days lost at work, more marital friction and more mental health problems than any other dis- ease today.

You may well have heard of the 80/20 principle somewhere already, but have you heard of this law before? I have to admit when I read about it I did a double take, thinking they were talking about the Pareto Principle (The 80/20 Rule) which we talk about in The Anti Stress Book and had gotten their wires crossed, but this is something completely different although it can definitely help you with how to manage stress.

Well, following on from my last blog post, I’ve just had some of my more limiting beliefs expunged! And it is always a healthy thing to have our horizons of thinking expanded… I was once British, and despite the fact that we have some highly entertaining and somewhat irreverent comedians… just look at Monty Python or Borat… nevertheless our stiff upper lip conditioning means that we are also very conscious of where and when it’s proper to laugh.

Swine Flu Fears Spread Throughout MexicoHonestly, your risks of being killed by a lightning strike in the last five years are about 2,300 percent higher than your risk of contracting and dying from the swine or bird flu. No joke! Worldwide in only one year (2004), more than 1,170 people died from lighting strikes; and just to keep this in perspective, it appears that the regular flu, not the swine flu, has killed 13,000 in the US since January, (although there is also strong endorsement that these figures are grossly exaggerated in order to increase vaccine sales). Who stands to benefit from a massive global panic about a supposedly deadly disease, the Swine Flu? Yup, you guessed it, the pharmaceutical companies.

Laughter as Therapy

Maxim and I want to make this blog as interesting (as well as valuable) as possible, so from time to time we’ll post amusing videos and maybe even a joke or two. Maxim is an inveterate joker BTW so watch out! Did you know that one of the very best ways of reducing stress is to laugh? There are even laughter clubs all over the world. Just as most of us recognize the importance of regular exercise to maintain good physical and emotional health, you’ve probably never given much thought to a practice which specifically exercises your emotions? The health benefits of this very silly and infectious New Age pastime as a way of managing stress are legion.

My name is Sandhan and I just want to welcome you to the first ever Blog post for The Stress Book. Congratulations! Maxim and I started this website to help everyone we can who is currently coping with stress but thinks that they are doomed to a life sentence! We both know what that feels like, but rest assured, it is not true; there are most definitely stress management techniques which help in reducing stress and anxiety. They don’t cost a lot, (some nothing at all) you can practice many of them alone and at home and mostly they produce an almost instant result.
